"Hoops for Hunger" Doubleheader To benefit the Food Bank
Youngstown, OH (January 13, 2006) The Youngstown State University Athletic Department, Giant Eagle, WFMJ TV-21
have teamed up to fight hunger in our community by sponsoring the 2nd annual "Hoops for Hunger" basketball
games at YSU to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. The YSU men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a doubleheader
at Beeghly Center on Thursday, February 2. The women will host Butler at 5:15pm, while the men will battle Illinois-Chicago
in a 7:35pm game.
Any fan bringing 2 Giant Eagle brand non-perishable food items will be admitted to the games FREE OF CHARGE.
"This community-based promotion, supported by Giant Eagle and WFMJ, will help area families through the winter,"
said Ron Strollo, Executive Director of Athletics at YSU. "We invite area sports fans to enjoy a great doubleheader
of Penguin basketball at Beeghly Center and help support Second Harvest Food Bank."
"We are excited about this promotion with our friends at YSU, Giant Eagle and TV-21," said Mike Iberis,
Executive Director of the Food Bank. "This is our second year of partnering on this Hoops for Hunger game,
so come enjoy good basketball and help feed our hungry friends and neighbors. The gates at Beeghly Center
open at 4:15pm. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Penguin Basketball key chain compliments of Giant Eagle.
