MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF HUNGRY FAMILIES
Youngstown, OH (10/25/06) In recognition of Make a Difference Day, Saturday October 28, Second Harvest Food Bank, located at 2805 Salt Springs Road, will be open for volunteers and accepting non-perishable food donations from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The Food Bank extends an invitation to volunteer to Make a Difference in our communityby sorting and re-boxing food.
In honor of Make a Difference Day, sponsored locally by the Tribune Chronicle, thirty area businesses and organizations have been collecting food throughout the month of October on behalf of Second Harvest Food Bank and will deliver the food Saturday.
Make a Difference Day is a national day of people helping people, sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine. Last year, 3 million people volunteered their time to Make a Difference in their community.
“Make a Difference Day is one day a year that we, as neighbors, can come together and give something back to the community we live in.” We are happy to support the Food Bank in their mission to feed hungry families,” says Sue Shafer, Make a Difference Day coordinator, Tribune Chronicle. Each Day, the Food Bank distributes 20,000 pounds of food to over 170 hunger relief programs in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties including church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and shelters for battered women. The Food Bank serves over 7,400 people each week. |
