THRIVENT FINANCIAL FOR LUTHERANS FEEDING HUNGRY FAMILIES

     Youngstown, OH (10/25/06) On Friday, October 27 at 3:00 p.m. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will deliver 3,000 hams to help feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.  Thrivent Financial volunteers will be on hand from 2 to 4 p.m. to unload the hams and sort and re-box food. 

     The Trumbull County Chapter is also asking each Lutheran congregation to collect specific food items during the month of November and as the recipient of this year’s Care in Regions grant, additional hams will be provided to the Food Bank.

     “We are very grateful to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Rick Thompson for this generous gift of hams,” said Michael Iberis, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank.  “They will help feed many hungry families this holiday season.  We will distribute over 5 million pounds of food this year right here in our community and we could not do it without supporters like Thrivent Financial.”

     Each day, the Food Bank distributes approximately 20,000 pounds of food to 170 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties including church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and shelters for battered women.
