NATIONAL FOOD BANK WEEK

October 6, 2006 (Youngstown, OH)  National Food Bank Week is October 15-21 and is an effort to increase awareness of hunger and encourage year-round action to alleviate it.

This year, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley invites the public to stop by the facility at 2805 Salt Springs Road in Youngstown to learn more about the Food Bank and how you can help feed hungry families in our community. The Food Bank is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at other times by arrangement.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is the local certified affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, the country’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. In 2005 alone, the network distributed more than 2 billion pounds of food and grocery products to 25 million people including 9 million children and 3 million seniors.

Last year, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley distributed 4.5 million pounds of food to 170 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. We anticipate distributing 5 million of pounds of food this year including almost 1 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.

To learn how to support the Food Bank, stop by our facility, call the warehouse at 330-792-5522 or visit www.mahoningvalleysecondharvest.com.

Together, we can create a hunger-free community.
